Soundwave began life as a miner in Kaon. Due to its heightened physical and internal senses, it was determined to be too defective to serve in the Iaconian Guard- despite its frame being perfect for the job. However, manual labor was the last thing Soundwave should have been doing.The mines were cruel. The extremely overstimulating environment left Soundwave in a perpetual daze. It was unable to find any semblance of control over its abilities, and was left to fend for itself. The foremech of the mines did not care about Soundwave's wellbeing. Instead, they were only concerned with meeting quota and increasing the bottom line. Soon, it became clear that Soundwave was far more trouble than it was worth. While it endured abuses at the foremech's hands, the worst was when they sold it to the gangs that ran the Pits of Kaon.Soundwave was expected to not survive its first match. Yet, the battle awoke something inside it. Soundwave had unlocked its battle protocols, and thus its power. The Pits were formative for Soundwave and shaped who it is today- a cold, calculating and competent mech.Though, that was not the only thing The Pits gave Soundwave. After a hard won battle, Ravage and Laserbeak decided to keep Soundwave for their own. At first, it had no idea why, but then its true nature was revealed. Soundwave was a deployer, a mech meant to house smaller mechs and form intense familial bonds with them. Ravage and Laserbeak quickly became Soundwave's guide and hope in life. They eventually assisted in the creation of the twins and Buzzsaw. To build them, Soundwave stole parts from gladiators it had killed, from the medbay, and had to undergo the painful process of splitting its spark and transferring the spark shards to the stolen chambers.Another important relationship Soundwave forged as a gladiator was Megatronus himself. At first, they were rivals. While the pair grew to admire each other's talents in combat, they strove to assert their superiority over the other. When both of them had solidified themselves as the leading fighters, a death match was scheduled between them.The match didn't end as expected. Soundwave and Megatronus both refused to land a killing blow. The result: the only tie on both of their records and a friendship forged in energon and mutual respect.Through Megatronus, Soundwave learned what it truly meant to be autonomous and free. Its education underwent a hard left turn towards revolutionary history and ideals. The anger that was inside it suddenly had a target: Functionalism and The Senate.Thus began the revolution.But then, revolution turned into counterrevolution, which turned into a millions of years long civil war. It was devistating to the planet, to both factions, and especially to Soundwave. It had proven itself as a spymaster, its beloved symbiotes its agents, and its powerful processors its weapon. Still, its talents could not stop the realities of war. Casualties mounted, and soon names of the dead became personal.Buzzsaw was the first to be offlined. He was caught in a massive blast that tore his frame asunder. Next was Frenzy. He was caught behind enemy lines and executed. Rumble was the third. At this point neither the remaining symbiotes or Soundwave should have been working- they had just lost two beloved family members within months of each other; but war is war, and so Rumble went. Rumble was killed in a large scale battle while trying to relay highly sensitive, stolen information to command.At this point, Soundwave was a shell of itself. Its spark held three empty spots within it, their bonds only relayed static while the last moments from their visual feeds played over and over in its head. All Soundwave had left was Ravage and Laserbeak. Its guide and its hope.Within the last few years of the war on Cybertron, Ravage was the last symbiote to be lost. Her death was the final straw that broke Soundwave. It had lost its guide, its brothers, its family. All it had left was Laserbeak. She is a constant source of hope and strength for Soundwave, and truly is the only reason why it is still fighting.The loss of its siblings made Soundwave mute and directionless. All it has left is The Cause and the hope that one day it will see peace. Soundwave believes firmly that peace cannot be seen as long as the Autobots still fight- the murderers of its family cannot be trusted with a new beginning of Cybertron. Thus, Soundwave places its faith in Megatron, and that he will bring a new era for all Cybertronians.

Defective
↳ S-13 was used to the overwhelming world of the mines. It was truly only a matter of time until he was sold off to the Pits of Kaon; his only use now was cannon fodder for hungry crowds. As he enters the ring for his first and assumed to be only match, something strange happens. Perhaps with S-13, there is more than meets the eye.

↳ Empathic; Soundwave has a heightened sense of empathy due to its ability to read EM Fields on a large scale. At first, it was overwhelming, but when Soundwave was able to hone the skill, it could read even the stoniest of mechs and discover their true intentions, emotions and motivations just with a glance.↳ Telepathic; Touch based, enhanced by EM Field readings. While the EM Fields provide sharp context, Soundwave's telepathic abilities allow it to delve into someone's mind and memories.↳ High Speed Processing; Soundwave is a juggernaut when it comes to processing data of all types. Its problem solving abilities are only rivaled by the likes of Shockwave. This gives it a unique perspective with out of the box thinking.↳ Battle Protocols; Soundwave's battle protocols are inherently analytical in nature. It turns surveillance from a passive ability to an active weapon. Its main and secondary processors are overridden from normal functions, allowing it to calculate probablity, telemetry, trajectory, and weak spots. The protocols are constantly updating with new data gained, meaning the longer it is in a fight, the deadlier it gets.↳ Connectivity; Soundwave is connected to Trypticon (the titan that forms the Nemesis). While this is a hinderance in many ways, it amplifies its processing power and allows it to create ground bridges at will.↳ Coding; Soundwave is a master class coder. It is capable of creating complicated viruses and firewalls within hour, as well as being a prolific hacker.↳ Memory; Soundwave has large memory storage banks. While memories from its time in the Mines and Pits are just starting to degrade, it remembers the revolution, the war and everything in perfect detail. It uses its memories to create profiles and categories for those it interacts with. This goes hand in hand with its recordings. Soundwave can and will dredge up recordings from long ago for blackmail or to elicit a reaction in which the situation turns to its favor.↳ Spark Splitting and Cassette Creation; Soundwave can autonomously create its own cassettes via spark splitting. It has to build their frames to a point of viability of life, and ensure that there is an internal repair system installed so that it may take over when the spark splinter is mature enough. This ability is extremely time and resource intensive, hence why no new cassettes have been created over the course of the war.

↳ Soundwave uses it/its pronouns; it views itself as a tool, a weapon to be used. It lost its personhood over the course of the war on Cybertron and once the Nemesis left for the stars, it had lost its sense of self completely.↳ Soundwave did not take a vow of silence, rather it is mute. The gradual loss of its symbiotes caused it to get quieter and quieter. The loss of Ravage, the final symbiote to go offline, is what caused Soundwave to go fully mute due to the trauma and grief.↳ Megatron is the one who came up with the vow of silence. Soundwave saw its mutism as a weakness, something unbefitting of the Decepticon Third in Command. Megatron believed deeply that Soundwave's ability and position could not be undermined, thus suggested the vow of silence narrative.↳ Soundwave has a sibling relationship with its symbiotes; Ravage and Laserbeak are its older sisters, Rumble, Frenzy and Buzzsaw are its younger brothers.↳ Soundwave has an apathetic, but amused, outlook towards organic life. Its curious nature has lead it to be interested in all organic cultures and creations, even though it views them from afar and with an air of aloofness. While it appreciates their cultures, it does not view them as inherently worthy of anything beyond mere curiosity. They are an oddity to be viewed, nothing more, nothing less.↳ There is one thing Soundwave actively thinks is worth saving from organic life: Music. Soundwave has thousands of curated playlists from all organic life forms it has come across. For humans, it has a hacked Spotify account in which it keeps many of these playlists.↳ Soundwave has managed to get itself connected to the internet, and will regularly do internet searches on things it is unfamiliar with. It also enjoys watching movies and videos.↳ Due to its lackluster upbringing in the Mines and Pits of Kaon, Soundwave had to teach itself how to read at a higher level, mathematics in general, coding and basic science. It has a great interest in the sciences, especially astronomy and physics.↳ Soundwave has a very peculiar sense of humor. It's akin to a cat, taking enjoyment in annoying those around it with harmless actions. Though it is rare for Soundwave to show this side, and only does so around those it trusts.↳ Shockwave performed Soundwave's reformat from its war frame to its stealth frame after its symbiotes went offline.↳ Before the war, Soundwave was a gladiator with Megatron. It honed its skills and life long friendship with the Decepticon leader in the pits of Kaon. It trusts Megatron with its life because of their shared experiences. Its loyalty to the Decepticon cause runs deeper than politics.

↳ Undefined; Default verse, takes place during S2-S3 of TFP. No specialty tags.↳ Post War; Forced to reckon with its actions over the course of the war while dealing with its slowly encroaching death shook Soundwave to its core. It fully believed that it would die in the Shadow Zone, unable to protect its last symbiote, and it knew it was there because of its own foolish actions. Being pulled from the Shadow Zone was a mercy, and Soundwave is not about to waste this second chance. It slowly regained its ability to speak and has accepted its role in society as an empathic telepath.

Soundwave comes to the conclusion that while it had tied Megatron directly to The Cause, that is not the case.Torn between siding with its oldest friend and the ideals of freedom it had held close to its spark since its awakening in the Pits, Soundwave finally decides that it can no longer participate in this endless war. It defects, becoming a neutral party.
↳ The Wreckers; An AU I have been cooking where when Soundwave defects, it joins the Wreckers instead of becoming neutral. There is no current thread in this AU.

My favourite TF media is Prime, Earthspark, and Transformers One. Of course, there are other pieces of media that I enjoy: the Red Dead games, Assassin's Creed, Dishonored, Skyrim, and many others. I love sci-fi and psychological horror too!Thinking outside terms of media, I have a deep love in my heart for ecological conservation, Appalachia, and political activism. I am a Marxist-Leninist, and believe that freedom is indeed the right of all senient beings.
